Abstract

Work of Bondal, Kawamata and Orlov has shown that the derived category of coherent sheaves on a variety is a categorical object carrying a plethora of information about the variety itself. I will show which information can be read off from the derived category of a variety, with particular focus on the case of varieties having non-vanishing first Betti number.
