Abstract

I will introduce hyperbolic 3-manifolds, discuss the interaction of geometry and topology, stress the importance of volume, and describe some manifolds that exhibit these phenomena. This talk is intended to be accessible to graduate students of all levels; no technical knowledge of hyperbolic geometry is expected (though the definitions of a manifold and its fundamental group may be assumed).
