Abstract
In the context of a finite labeled population, for estimation of a population total or mean, there does not exist any umvue, unless the sampling design is trivially a cluster sampling design. This is the celebrated Godambe's non-existence theorem. Basu established another version of it. We revisit the proof and strengthen the result by using matrix arguments.
