Abstract

We will count rational curves on algebraic surfaces (4 manifolds) using elementary methods. Then, we'll contrast these numbers with those one can get through the formalism of quantum cohomology, This talk will be very concrete, for instance we'll be computing numbers of the following type: there are 620 rational quartics on $CP^2$ passing through 11 fixed points.
