Abstract

Basic ideas of survey sampling were utilized in a project for STAT431 "Introduction to Survey Sampling" at the University of Illinois at Chicago, taught and supervised by Professor Hedayat in the fall 2009, to estimate the mis-shelving rate of books at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) Daley library. We use this project as an example to illustrate how to design a sampling plan, sample size, and how to estimate rates at which books are mis-shelved.
