Abstract
The study of solutions of polynomial systems is a fundamental topic in mathematics. In this talk I will discuss the finiteness and enumeration of solutions to families of polynomial systems that arise in celestial mechanics and vortex dynamics - however, the methods used can be applied in greater generality. I will also briefly introduce the Sage computational platform which is used for this work. Sage is free, open-source, and builds on many other successful projects. For this talk, I will focus on the components Gfan, PHCpack, Singular, and some Sage-native code.
