Abstract

This is a talk about the classical problem of Hodge which proposes a characterization of cohomology classes carried by algebraic subvarieties of a complex projective manifold. An inductive strategy for attacking this problem is proposed, using a somewhat 'larger' group than the intermediate Jacobian and a generalization of the classical Abel-Jacobi map.
