Abstract
Free boundary and boundary value problems arise in many areas of science and engineering. From free-surface fluid mechanics, to brain tumor evolution, to electromagnetics and acoustics, the applications are everywhere. In many cases such phenomena can be accurately modeled by partial differential equations (PDE) posed on irregular and/or moving domains. In this talk we will discuss some of these applications, and a class of techniques (Boundary Perturbation Methods) for analyzing these PDE, both theoretically and numerically, based upon perturbations of the boundary domain. The talk will be aimed at a general audience of graduate students and advanced undergraduates.
