- Abstract
- The first known counterexample to Hilbert's 14th problem was introduced by Nagata in 1958. Since then, much work has been done to simplify and generalize his idea. In this talk, we will present Hilbert's problem and some early results, an elementary counterexample (a simplified version of Nagata's), and connect the construction to the total coordinate rings of certain blow-ups of $\mathbb{P}^2$.
