Abstract

Last week we saw that finite generation of a particular ring depended on finite generation of the effective cone of the blow-up of the plane at a set of points. In this (hopefully) self-contained talk, we will prove that the effective cone of the blow-up of the plane at 9 or more general points is not finitely generated.
