Abstract
Enumerative geometry is the theory of counting geometric objects. For simple questions, one can find so-called "classical solutions" by manipulating the geometry in such a way so that the count is easy to obtain. For more complicated questions, one must use more advanced tools such as moduli spaces and intersection theory. I will give a brief history and introduction to the subject and discuss some of the key questions and tools in its development.
