Abstract

This will be an introductory talk aimed at explaining the combinatorial characterization of which Schubert varieties are Gorenstein given in the article with the same title by A. Woo and A. Yong. We will look at the preliminary definitions needed to understand the characterization. The proof is based on an approach using the global geometry of Schubert varieties instead of local ring structure; we will sketch the main ideas omitting most of the details.
