Abstract

For a positive integer h, let F(h) denote the number of imaginary quadratic fields with class number equal to h. In this talk, I will survey a result of Soundararajan which, using a theorem on the distribution of values of L(1,\chi_d), proves an asymptotic formula for the average of F(h).
