Abstract

Lie groups over the $p$-adics form an interesting class of non-discrete locally compact totally disconnected groups. It is well known the local results in connected Lie theory apply equally well in the $p$-adic case. However, many of the global theorems of connected Lie theory are not known to have $p$-adic counterparts. We present a global decomposition theorem for $p$-adic Lie groups which is analogous to the familiar solvable by semi-simple decomposition for connected Lie groups.
