Abstract
I will discuss congruences modulo a prime p between modular forms arising from geometric (PEL) and algebraic settings. In particular I will explain how, by allowing changes in the weights, the (mod p) Hecke eigenforms associated to some reductive groups G can be seen as eigenforms associated to an inner form of G which is compact modulo center at the infinite places. This type of considerations were originally made by J-P. Serre for elliptic modular forms.
